Re. Response from Business: The business asked me to make an offer for discount becuase I was told the holes were not meant to be there and I was also told that the because the holes were there, it wasn't fire rated. Once I was advised it was fire rated I rescinded my request for the refund. I''m no builder but on the drawings no holes are mentioned or drawn. ------ I was handed the dreaded fire curtain curve ball by building control. Building control advised I used a competitor of A1S but they were being slow to respond so I went with A1S. Pre sale was good and they matched the price offered by competitor. Slightly behind schedule on install but not by much. The main issue I had was the install and subsequent comms from A1S. The fire curtain does not recess fully (I have attached photos) and A1S did not respond to my email asking them to amend it. I have spoken to other fire curtain specialists who say there is no reason why it shouldn't fully come up. There were also five holes added to the curtain which, according to two separate people at A1S, shouldn't have been there. Building control passed the work but commented that it was one of the worst he had seen in terms of aesthetics. He also had concerns that the curtain has a smoke and heat sensor - most only have heat. I asked A1S for their opinion on building control's feedback but no reply. I am pleased that we passed building control but should have gone with Building Control's recommended supplier - apparently their curtain blends in far better. It was an expensive unforeseen addition and by far the worst after sales experience I've ever had.

Building Control sprang the fire curtain requirement on me, so it wasn’t a purchase I had legislated for. The A1S Group were brilliant, they were always responsive, extremely knowledgeable around British Standards and installed a fire curtain and control panel in my apartment with the minimum of disruption. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending them.

Speedy quotation, immediate survey, clear drawings and a flawless installation that was two days earlier than the given lead time. Comprehensive and clear operation manuals and speedy and compliant response to my building control queries. By far the best team in the UK to deal with for fire curtains and a particular thank you to their compliance team who were thorough, informative and in the final analysis saved me from a costly error because of bad advice elsewhere. A huge thank you, five stars and would totally recommend.

Would not use A1 again. A1 Shutters have installed 4 x shutters for us, spent over £4k. Within 18 months we have had problems with every single one, we've found the installation is poor and after sales is a shambles. The first shutter would stick 3 quarters of the way up, this was sorted out twice within the first 12 months, which shows there is something not right. After 12 months your warranty is up and now they hit you with big call out bills. The second shutter has a gap behind it big enough to fit your fingers in and pull on it, this shutter also has a track that comes loose every few weeks which we tighten back up with a screwdriver. The third shutter made a clunking noise when it reached about 3 quarters up, turns out one of the guide tracks was loose, A1 came, drilled a couple of new holes and were gone in 15 mins, another big call out charge, this clunking noise is starting to come back again. The final shutter is ridiculous, this shutter decides to open itself when it feels like it, we've checked our CCTV and found the shutter opens up at random times, leaving us vulnerable, we've been left with an open front shutter all night on several occasions. I am disgusted with A1, after trusting them to be a large reputable company, I feel let down, as soon as you hit 12 months they are keen to start charging for big call outs, even for issues that have been rectified previously and reoccured. I guess they only expect their shutter to last a year.

One star is a star too many for these cowboys. Disgraceful treatment of employees, zero concept of employment law, unlawfully sacking staff to replace with lower paid workers, the list goes on. I pity the remaining innocent staff members who must be worrying when they’re next out of the door. See you in court.
