A fresh manicure is a perfect way to add a little something extra to your outfit. While we will always love ballet slipper pink or a classic red, why not try something a little more adventurous for your next manicure? From subtle chic detailing to bold designs, there is something for everyone with this season’s most stylish nail trends – because life is too short for boring nails. According to data from Pinterest, searches for “indie nails” are up 21 percent this winter. But what exactly is this nail trend all about? It’s simply taking a different approach to painting each nail. As shown here, one digit might have a checkered design, while others have swirls or a fresh take on the French manicure. Gone are the days of more muted, neutral pinks. Look for all shades, from bubblegum to hot pink. “Pinks were a popular choice amongst designers this season, so I expect them to have a moment next year,” says Jin Soon Choi, manicurist and owner of Jin Soon Hand and Foot Spas in NYC. Simple looks that are easy to maintain and press-on sets have been very popular ever since the start of quarantine—and will continue to be as we head into another winter of restrictions, says Pinto. There are options abound online, but some salons, like Vanity Projects, also offer custom sets. Many people have been using COVID restrictions as an excuse to take a break from all the gel and acrylics to heal their nails, says Soon Choi. But that doesn’t mean abandoning your digits altogether. To ensure hands and nails still look, well, polished, Soon Choi says there’s more interest in nail care—like applying cuticle oil for hydration. The pearl nail trend has been brewing for some time now. The best thing about this trend is how versatile it is. If you’re after something luxe, have physical pearls applied to your nails. Depending on how glamorous you want to go, you can stick one on each nail at the cuticle, or cover your nails completely. However, if you want something a little more subtle, then an iridescent pearl nail polish is a perfect alternative. Subtly unleash your creativity with a single nail feature. For this understated trend, paint all but one of your nails in a block color of your choice and make the remaining nail pop! A classic option is a single metallic or sparkly nail, but you could try patterns or graphics. The possibilities are endless!
