Dementia Care

'Memory Lane' utilises a careful blend of skills and techniques developed by leading experts in the field of dementia care, incorporating person-centred design in its use of colour and cues to help individuals navigate through the home, whilst thoughtful interior design features, such us adapted crockery and tableware assists with reminiscence. Communities are broken up into separate units with a family feel so people can feel safe and comfortable. Care is focused on independence, dignity and choice, with a person-centred approach. Staffing levels reflect the needs of residents, and people living with dementia are offered a range of activities to help preserve life skills, support interactions and retain a sense of purpose and selfhood.

Person-centred care is at the very heart of all Barchester care homes. The last thing we wanted was for mum to go into a nursing home. Her health deteriorated and the decision was taken out of our hands. Mum has settled extremely well at Arbour Court, this is a direct result of care and respect shown by all the staff. Mum feels safe and loved. She is always happy to see us but does not get upset when we leave. Despite having advanced dementia, she tells us that she receives wonderful care. She also tells us that meals are delicious; she has gradually put on weight since arriving over 12 months ago. Mum also has advanced heart failure, kidney disease and other health issues. We feel the expert nursing care she receives has allowed us more time with her. Provided it is safe to do so, the staff follow the resident’s lead, which avoids any unnecessary upset. We are relieved and grateful that mum is receiving such wonderful care. Arbour Court is not just a nursing home, it is a home in the best sense of the word and the staff, whilst maintaining professionalism, have become family.

The staff are always very friendly and treat Mum with respect and care. It doesn’t matter what time I visit, Mum and I are treated the same by everyone. They fully understand Mums needs and work well to stimulate and work with her. The impression I have is that they are a team not a group of individuals who work there.

Would not leave a pot plant with this place. We looked round this place for my dad. For reference it was the most expensive in the area. The following week my father passed away. The secretary emailed my mother to ask if we still needed the place. My mother explained that my father had sadly passed away. "Right" said the secretary, "I'll take him off the list" How cold is that? No "sorry for your loss" - nothing. Absolutely disgusting way to deal with a potential customer. People are clearly just a number to them because they pay their staff minimum wage too.

My wife's Aunt was resident at Arbour Court and from the moment she arrived her overall health improved. She was treated more like a family member than just a resident! The attitude of the staff was brilliant and they always ensured she was safe and comfortable. Any fall or incident was immediately reported to us and appropriate action taken. I would recommend them without hesitation and would like to thank every member of staff that dealt with her and made her final years as good as they could have possibly have been. This is a senior home that was always clean and fresh to visit along with a friendly greeting.

My dad has been a much cared for and genuinely respected resident for a number of years, after becoming too ill to be cared for at home. The staff are lovely. The rooms are well appointed. The food is pretty good given that it has to cater to a range of tastes.
