I just wanted to leave some honest feedback about this school from a parent whose child has attended it for 4 years. Sadly we are moving away so she can no longer attend but if her new school is even half as wonderful as Broadoak then I know she will be happy. The school has a lovely mix of making sure children are encouraged to be happy, confident and creative as well as having very high standards in behaviour and learning. My daughter is summer born so I worried how she would cope but she has done wonderfully well in all her learning. But more importantly she enjoys learning and actually loves going to school!! She has taken part in some great experiences such as going to 'wood crew' in the wonderful, expansive grounds (rare for an inner city school), learning African drumming and performing in Festivals, taking part in dance workshops and many other inspiring trips. It always strikes me how polite and happy all the children are in the school and the teaching Staff have been consistently warm, caring and outstanding teachers. The head is great, he will always make time for you and all the children like and respect him. I often recommend Broadoak to friends and only wish I could take it with me when we move!

In my time working in education, I have unfortunately been greeted at office windows by several hundred of these fearsome, unwelcoming creatures and it's a desperate shame your first impression of Broad Oak was spoilt at your point of entrance. My daughter attended Broad Oak from nursery onwards and my son is currently in year 5 having started at the same point. The beauty of Broad Oak for us is that it recognises not everyone learns in the same way, has a fantastic and extremely exciting creative curriculum, is inclusive, community focused, caring and best of all has a pupil intake that represents the wonderful diversity of our great city and the real world that our children will eventually become a real part of. Both my kids have loved their time here and their thirst for learning owes it's roots to the school and fab teachers they've had along the way. In a time when forced academisation hangs over the heads of all schools, forcing our cherished bases of education to become branded, money-focused businesses, Broad Oaks ethos stands out like a beacon of hope in the ever changing world of the schools system and having worked in hundreds of schools across the region I know very well we couldn't have put our children in a better place.

Very good school. Dedicated staff who love their job and teach the kids to a very high standard. A warm and friendly school. Children thrive on happiness here as each child is treated as individuals.

Update - Jun 16 - thank you so much for the people who have replied to my post. I really appreciate hearing the positive stories. I wrote my response when I was feeling very discouraged, upset and embarrassed. I really appreciate the opportunity to hear the positive side of the school as my initial impression based on the look and feel had been a good one. I also appreciate that safeguarding is tremendously important and that we all have bad days. I will contact the school again and see if I can look around.

Don't send your kids here. They are wilfully blind to bullying to the point that a child will be found dead and they hesitate to investigate the matter clearly. The child was a refugee, thus the family don't have the financial backing to pursue this in court.
