‘Evo is great.  All the trainers are so knowledgeable, supportive and encouraging. They

really help you perfect your techniques. I’ve found it really motivating training in small

groups as opposed to training alone.

I joined Evo back in May 2015 as a way of getting myself back to the gym. I had always gone to the gym on and off for at least 10 years previously, having been a member at least 2 or 3 other gyms and done all sorts of classes from Spin to Body Pump, Body Combat, Personal Training to yoga. I’d never really found my thing though. That changed when I started doing PT with Jake in the field behind my apartment, come rain or shine. He introduced me to boot-camp type exercising on a one-to-one basis and then I started going to Evo Camp in the Hall on Palatine road, along with small group PT sessions that we had out of a shed in Josh’s back garden. It was so much fun! Absolutely knackering, but I quickly realized Evo was more than just a gym as we would go on socials doing everything from the pub quiz to Jump Nation to wine tasting to Total Ninja. January 2016 brought a new string to the Evo bow with the introduction of EVO lift. I was absolutely hooked. Throughout 2016 I probably averaged about 5-7 sessions a week of lift and camp and have never been so fit before – I even got member of the year at the Xmas Party (still got the trophy haha). Fast forward to September 2017 and I moved from Chorlton to Withington, carefully choosing where I bought my house to ensure I could still go to Evo. (Yes, Evo is THAT good!) Since then I have been on countless Evo socials, every single summer and Xmas party, done two Rough Runners (including one in the middle of Storm Brian), been kayaking, bowling, (lots of) drinking and generally had a ball. My entire way of viewing the gym and exercising had totally changed and I stopped looking at it as punishment and thought of it as something to genuinely look forward to. My focus was on the numbers I was lifting not the numbers on the scale or the tape measure. I naturally got slimmer and more toned when going regularly but that wasn’t the goal. My goals constantly changed as I got stronger and when I look back on my 50kg deadlift target, glad I started somewhere, but ending on a PB of 145kg for two reps. I have never felt so proud of or comfortable in my own skin as knowing what my body is capable of thanks to Evo. I have made so many friends there as well and I know many couples that have met there and there’s even been an Evo marriage. Not many gyms can say that! December 2022 was my last month with Evo and the end of an era as I have had to move to North Manchester, so it’s not feasible to commute back to Didsbury sadly (hurry up and open one is Whitefield / Prestwich Josh!!) I thought I’d end with a few numbers to sum up my time at Evo over the years: Socials: approximately 30 Evo camps: around 520 Evo lifts: around 1100 Deadlift: 145kg Bench: 70kg Squat: 120kg Years at Evo: 7.5 Friends made: 90+ Weight lost: don’t know, don’t care

I'm fairly new to Evo but loving it so far! The trainers are super knowledgable, helpful and really encouraging. The classes are a good balance of challenging and accessible - I've enjoyed both the Lift and Camp classes though I initially joined more for the strength training. It also seems like a really fun, friendly bunch of people. I'd highly recommend to anyone looking for a balance of personal training attention but with a nice social environment thrown in.

If you’re interested in lifting weights in a friendly group setting, Evo is the gym for you. Perfectly situated off Burton Road (best of luck avoiding that post-gym beer!), it’s a fab environment for both beginners, and more seasoned gym goers, to push themselves and get stronger. The coaches really make Evo, with their great knowledge, and (occasionally) great banter. Regular testing weeks ensure you stay top of your game strength-wise, and regular socials, well they’re just good for the soul! The manager really goes above and beyond, and genuinely cares about each and every member. Whether you’re new to the area, new to lifting weights, or could just do with a little guidance and extra motivation when it comes to weight training, I couldn’t recommend Evo enough.

Having recently joined Evo following a period of indecision around whether to try weight training, I could not be happier with my choice to take up the trial and officially sign-up. The team are very supportive, knowledgeable and offer advice tailored to your aims and progress. The atmosphere created by other members is also one of support and encouragement which is a great bonus. I’m already beginning to feel the benefits after only 6 weeks on both my physical and mental health.

Joined Evo a few weeks ago and honestly it was the best decision I’ve ever made. The team are so friendly, helpful and encouraging and I felt at ease immediately. They talk you through each exercise to make sure you are doing it correctly and safely. There is no competitiveness and everybody is so lovely and supportive. Each exercise is tailored to the individual and their fitness level so you can work out at your own pace. Worth every penny. I would highly recommend!
