Higher Lane has a very popular Out of School Club that operates from 7.45 – 8.45am before school, and from 3.30 – 6.00pm after school. EYFS have their own room to use at OOSC.

We have a very large ‘classroom’ area, a conservatory for ‘messy play’, and our own Outdoor Area. The children have at least 3 teacher led sessions a day for Maths, Phonics and Reading as well as lots of time to play in the areas with their friends.

There are 2 Reception classes with 5 full time staff at Higher Lane – 2 teachers and 3 teaching assistants, and we share the same room – separating only for register time.

The Reception children’s learning is based around the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum, and children learn through a mix of child initiated and teacher led activities.

Our EYFS Unit is a happy and fun environment for the children to start their school life at Higher Lane. It provides the perfect transition between nursery and school and is set up with lots of areas that the children will be familiar with, eg Construction Area, Sand Area.

Welcome to Higher Lane Primary School

Head's Welcome

On behalf of the Pupils, Staff and Governors I would like to welcome you Higher Lane Primary School.

Higher Lane Primary School is situated in Whitefield and is a two form entry primary school with 465 pupils on role. The school has a good reputation within the locality and is regularly over-subscribed.

The school provides a caring, carefully structured environment which fosters positive attitudes to the pursuance of excellence. We strive to create a relaxed yet orderly climate which enables the children to take pleasure in their learning and pride in their performance. The ultimate aim of the school is to meet the needs of all its pupils in order to develop them into confident independent learners.

The school has undergone very successful inspections and most recently in November 2014 Ofsted reported : “This is a good school with outstanding behaviour."

The children play a vital role in contributing to the smooth running of the school through the School Council, Year Six Monitors and the Head Boys and Girls which you can find out about through this site.

Our rich high quality curriculum is based on a thematic approach and children learn through interesting and engaging topics.

Parents and staff work closely together in a supportive environment to enable pupils to fulfil their potential. The school has an open door policy and parents are encouraged to discuss any concerns or worries at a mutually convenient time. All concerns are taken seriously and dealt with quickly.

I am extremely proud to be the Headteacher of our great school and extremely fortunate to work with supportive parents and governors, outstanding pupils and a talented staff.

Mr I Tetlow  (Headteacher)

National Leader Of Education

Higher Lane Primary School  is a National Support School and Carol McLachlan, our CEO, is a National Leader of Education. National Leaders of Education (NLEs) are outstanding head teachers who, together with the staff in their schools, known as designated National Support Schools (NSS), use their skills and experience to support schools in challenging circumstances.

Higher Lane  has a very successful record of working with other schools, head teachers, groups of teachers and individual teachers in improving teaching and learning and pupil attainment and achievement. In addition to leading their own schools, NLEs work to increase the leadership capacity of other schools to help raise standards.

Schools seeking advice or support, guidance or help of any kind can contact Carol for an informal discussion via the school office.
