The first three digits. This displays the width of the tyre in millimetres. A tyre marked 225 will measure 225mm across the tread from sidewall to sidewall.

The fourth and fifth digits of the tyre code that immediately follow the tyre width. The aspect ratio or profile height of the tyre sidewall is expressed as a percentage of the tyre width. So an aspect ratio of 55 for example means that the profile height of the tyre is 55% of its width.

The next two digits represent the size of the wheel rim that the tyre can be fitted to. It is also the diameter of the tyre from bead to bead.  So a tyre marked 16 will fit on a 16-inch wheel rim.

Speed Rating

The speed rating of a tyre is represented by a letter of the alphabet at the end of the tyre size code and indicates the maximum speed capability of the tyre. Tyres receive a speed rating based on a series of tests which measure the tyres capability to handle a set speed for a prolonged period of time.

Select your tyre speed rating to find out the maximum speed your tyres can maintain.

If you are unsure what speed rating you need, be sure to check your vehicle handbook. Choosing a lower speed rating than that recommended by your vehicle manufacturer could potentially invalidate your insurance.

the only recommendations would be to return the lock nut socket to where they found lives, in the boot tool box. As they looked in the glove box and left it open also in the boot floor cover which i had to refit as it wouldn't close properly. The return of coffee machine would also be a good idea too. I would also suggest to clean the wheels after fitting, would leave a great impression.

Absolutely superb experience with these guys. They diagnosed a problem created by another branch (who couldn't fit me in for 4 days), and fixed everything within the hour. I can heartily recommend this branch, and will use them from now on. Polite, courteous, pleasant and friendly are just a few words to describe our visit.

i went to the branch earlier today for a puncture repair but can't tell you how disappointed I was. Firstly on booking the car in the guy on reception on taking the keys decided to show off his driving skill's driving quickly and turning late to enter the hoist area. Once on the hoist the guys then proceeded to look at the car to see if there are any other defects. Fair enough. Not surprisingly the reception guy comes along and tells me that the front tyres have a problem, they are advisory low at 3mm, I would agree they are coming to the end of their life and would I like to replace them. Not at the current time as they still have some life in them. He then goes out, by this time the punctured tyre has been removed and he then comes back in to tell me that the tyre is unrepairable as a screw has gone into the tyre at an angle rather than straight in, but they can supply a replacement at £126. We had a few words, but the net result was that I asked them to put the tyre back onto the vehicle and I would take it elsewhere as I disagreed with their view. On taking the car to Costco and asking the tyre bay to inspect and repair or replace the tyre, they repaired the tyre telling me the limit to repair a puncture is an entry angle of the screw of 20 degrees. The screw was perhaps 10 degrees. The tyre has now been duly repaired for £10 instead of the £25 originally quoted. Perhaps the biggest issue here is trust. Would I send my wife, daughter or son here or advise others. On this experience no.
