Welcome to My Sewing Box, a bespoke fashion and costume design studio in Manchester city centre (England).
Hi, my name is Silvia and I am a professional fashion and costume designer and dressmaker, based in Manchester (England). I love creating bespoke bridal gowns, special occasion dresses, costumes, and hand crafted street couture. I design my own collections of sustainable fashion, and hold two university degrees: Fashion design and industrial pattern cutting (Madrid, Goymar 1992) and Fashion design and styling (Manchester, Salford University 2000). I have travelled the world making fantastic creations, as well as lecturing fashion design at University.
I design and lovingly hand-make every garment from scratch, for each individual customer, from my workshop in an old mill in Manchester city centre.
I also offer a wedding dress redesign, alteration and upcycling service, as well as tuition on dressmaking, sewing, and fashion related subjects.
My work has been featured in Vogue Italy amongst other fashion magazines, has been shown at parades, has been worn by celebrities, has been on TV and newspapers, exhibited in galleries and fashion shows, and worn by performers in festivals and the circus.

Maria Kalorkoti5 StarI've been doing sewing lessons with Silvia for a while now, and it's been great so far. I'm learning a lot, and I definitely feel like I'm making progress each week.
Silvia is a fantastic teacher, and clearly has years of experience. I've been improving my fairly basic home sewing skills with her, but I think sewers of all abilities could get a lot out of taking classes with her.
It's also been good to try using a professional sewing machine and overlocker, and I'm now feeling more confident about sewing and pattern cutting at home. Silvia is a lovely and patient teacher, and I'd absolutely recommend her!Wednesday 11th August 2021

We didn’t have a lot of time as I got in touch with her quite last minute but she still managed to put it skilfully together remarkably quickly. She’s so talented and can make your visions come to life- even when you think to might not be possible. She also created a beautiful pink dress for my younger sister with beautiful hanging beading detail at the back that looked lovely with up-do hair. Sam Brocklehurst5 StarSilvia worked with me to make my wedding dress. I wanted something non-traditional (ended up with a floor-length sequin gown with sleeves) and from the first meeting, she completely got it.
I came armed with a couple of pictures of parts of dresses I liked and we had a great chat. Silvia drew up some great designs and was really patient and encouraging until I got what I wanted. She was great to work with and super creative.
The dress was absolutely stunning and absolutely what I wanted. The whole process was super easy and positive. Thank you, Silvia!
