According to Top Stylists

1. Modern Diana

If Spencer had you thinking about a Diana-inspired chop, you’re not alone. Ryan Trygstad, celebrity hairstylist and cofounder of New York’s Mark Ryan Salon, says he’s been giving his clients a modern take on the princess’s iconic haircut. “It’s such a fresh look, and exudes confidence and style,” he says. “The cut itself is a mixture of a very short layered bob edging toward a pixie.”

Trygstad says to expect other ’90s inspired super-short cuts to come back as well. If you aren’t ready to take the plunge into pixie territory, try a sleek chin-length bob like this one on Kaia Gerber.

2. Long Hair, Long Layers

Loose waves play up the cool factor of this cut. Try braiding your hair in four braids overnight for a heatless option, or hit your hair with a waving iron and some salt spray for instant gratification.

3. ’90s Layers

On the flip side, Brown is also loving thicker, ’90s layers—think a modern take on the Rachel. “I love how this makes wearing your hair up feel so much more styled and fresh,” she says. “Ask your stylist to give you a thicker chin-length layer around your face.”

The best part of this style is the choppy layers make even a formal updo feel so young and fun.

4. Medium Cut

If you’ve been dealing with scraggly ends, botched color jobs, or just generally blah hair, this is for you. “This length looks so chic and can help fine hair appear thicker when cut with a blunt line,” says Brown. “Ask for a one-length cut just above your bust line.”

The best thing about this cut is that it feels like a fresh start, without taking off too much length. If a one-length chop feels a little too severe, have your hairstylist add some longer, face-framing pieces—but not layers all around—for a touch of movement.

5. Blunt Bob

“There is something so fashion-forward about a one-length bob that sits just above the shoulders,” says Brown. “It’s super easy to style and can still be pulled back. Ask your stylist for a one-length cut roughly one to two inches below the chin but above the shoulders.”

Blunt doesn’t have to mean straight, and the short cut looks so pretty with some loose texture as well.

6. Long and Sleek

If you still haven’t been able to make it to the salon, fear not, as celebrity hairstylist Aviva Perea says crazy-long hair is trending hard. “I have seen so many people with hair longer than they normally wear it,” she says. “I also think that it will be all about long and straight, and sleek and shiny. There’s a little bit of skill that comes with using a curling iron, but most people are able to glide a flatiron down their hair.”

The key to making length look healthy, not scraggly, is asking your stylist for a blunt-bottom cut with barely there long layers. Then there are a few steps to getting that super-sleek look at home. “Straight out of the shower, you want to add a serum when your hair is still super wet—that way it’ll lock in moisture and keep your hair smooth,” says Perea. “I love the Extra Strength Serum from John Frieda. It has bamboo extract, which helps my hair stay hydrated while also minimizing frizz.”

7. Easy Waves

Care-free waves have always been a cool-girl staple, but with more women ditching heat styling, Perea says to expect an uptick in air-dried waves this year. Effortless hair starts with a great cut, and it’s crucial your stylist lay the foundation for hair that doesn’t need much styling. “When you’re in the chair, you want to make sure that the layers are even and heavier from the ear forward,” says Perea. “You also want to ask that your stylist ‘cuts into’ the layers. When you take perpendicular cuts into the layer, you are giving your hair somewhere to sit, which, when you are air-drying, is key. If you have blunt layers, your hair will dry on itself and look bulky.”

“Whether you have super-curly or wavy hair, you can achieve this look, but you have to prep your hair with a really good, super-high-performing leave-in conditioner,” says Perea, who likes the John Frieda Frizz Ease Daily Nourishment Leave-In Conditioner to coat hair and lock out frizz. “When my hair is wet, I section my hair so that the product can be dispersed evenly. Then after it’s completely saturated, I give my hair a few gentle twists to encourage the loose, effortless wave that I’m after.”

8. Asymmetrical Cut

A major look coming out of Salon Eva Michelle in Boston is this sharp bob-pixie hybrid with voluminous curls on one side and an undercut on the other. A good trick to make sure you get the cut you’re picturing: Bring photos of what you don’t want, in addition to styles you love. “Those speak volumes more,” says Michelle Lee, the salon’s owner and manager.

Another take on the asymmetrical trend? This sharp bob on Lucy Hale. The beauty with this style is it can be as avant-garde as you want, depending on how drastic the lengths are.

Room 35 is a fantastic salon in Failsworth and I would highly recommend it to anyone. The staff are very talented stylists who are really friendly and always make you feel very welcome. The salon is extremely clean and tidy and follows all social distancing rules to make you feel as comfortable as possible while your there. I thoroughly look forward to my appointments each month to feel pampered.

Cannot fault Room 35. Lizzy is absolutely fantastic, she has been doing my hair for since about 2008. She is the best hair stylist I have ever had and even though I don't live in Failsworth I have always returned to Room 35. The one time I went else were (for an emergency highlight) it was a disaster, so never again. All the staff are really friendly and have done their up most to protect each other and their clients during the recent pandemic

I have been having my hair done at Room 35 for many years and I can't imagine going anywhere else. The salon is always clean and tidy and since the salon reopened after lockdown all safety measures are in place and followed to the letter. Masks and PPE are always worn and everything is cleaned in-between clients. Lizzy, who does my hair, talks to me about what I want and is always honest about what is achievable and what is best for the condition of my hair. I always walk out loving my hair and the colour is always spot on. I feel like I get pampered every time I go and enjoy the friendly chat that is always there. The value for money is brilliant so I can afford to go back regularly for a treat. Room35 really is the best. 😀

Visited after lockdown, rude staff, no social distancing and many staff members without masks. Made me feel uncomfortable and I was insulted about the condition of my hair although I hadn’t visited a salon due to lockdown. Arrived on time for my appointment but was still waiting 45 minutes to be seen and staff members were just gathering to talk and paying no attention to customers. I would put 0 stars if this was possible, my dog gets better service at the groomers.
