My uncle, who suffers from dementia, was taken into hospital in February of this year. He was extremely weak and had been neglecting to eat, drink and take his medication. He was released into the care of Stamford House for a care assessment - and there he remains. It was at the height of the pandemic and we, as a family, have nothing but praise for the staff there. When he left hospital his prognosis did not look good. He was still extremely weak. He has gone from not being able to get up, stand or walk without the aid of two carers to being able to walk around on his own without the use of the frame available to him. As I live abroad I have not been able to visit him there yet, but the staff have enabled me to enjoy Zoom calls with him, where I can see the genuine affection he has for staff members and how this affection is reciprocated. He is happy there and this is a great relief to us as a family. His dementia, of course, cannot improve but the activities that constantly take place are something he thoroughly enjoys taking part in and this is a level of care and stimulation that we could never offer him in the home environment. And as his dementia worsens, as is the normal progression of this illness, we at least feel he is in very good hands. The pandemic has been a trying time and care staff have had to take on the responsiblity of replacing family. It's a hard enough job without taking on this role but Nadeeka, Sheila and all the carers have done this admirably. Visits were enabled when it was allowed and close communication was always possible. Of course, the onus here is also on the families, as we too have a duty of care and responsibility, which we should exercise. If I could give more than 5 stars I would!! Just wanted to say how friendly and caring the staff are at Stamford House. I'm a registered childminder who visited the home for our friendship mornings, fortnightly for the last two years. We are now completing these sessions on zoom meetings to stay in touch. The residents and children are stimulated by this interaction, where we read stories, show art work and sing old songs together.

The fact that this facility only has two reviews is no surprise, my nan has lived at stamford house for a few years now&i can honestly say it's probably the worst place that we could have put her, I'm not doubting that the staff try their best, however since being there not only has my nans mental health with her dementia rapidly degraded, from times I've come to visit and pictures I've seen on their Facebook page where you can see her in background she's just left slumped in a chair with lack of social interaction, not to mention that since being at stamford house her personal belongings have gone missing such as clothes, ornaments, furniture, only to be told by staff when asked about that they were either a danger to herself, mixed up in the wash or she puts it in other people's rooms, again I'm not saying that the staff haven't tried their best for my nan, I just don't think stamford house was the best facility for my nan and her conditon considering when she went Into the residence she could speak, move around, yes she had dementia but she wasn't a complete shell of herself that she is today. From times I've visited I've not been asked to sign in, the food they give her is not food my nan would eat, she's a diabetic and I've been there numerous of times where she's been given sugary foods, I don't go and see nan alot due to the pain seeing her like this causes&even more so know due to covid, but to phone up and ask how she is and be told she's happy and okay and no new updates to then seen in photos to be slumped over and left by herself while staff interact with more lively residents, if my family could go back to the day we put my nan into this residence we definitely wouldn't have.
